Bee & Bear Bakery was launched in May 2016 in order to provide something a little different for the gift-order market - boxes of freshly baked goods, straight from the Aga, beautifully packaged with a personalised hand-written note, and delivered nationwide at a reasonable cost. I began by selling sweet and savoury muffins but introduced our gluten-free and dairy-free brownies within a few months, followed by Afternoon Teas which have become our biggest seller.
I made my first Christmas pudding while I was on jury service 10 years ago – I had been sent home for 2 days between trials and was looking for a project to fill the time! These are now our seasonal focus. Last year I teamed up with Anno Gin, based in Marden, and started making puddings using their Cranberry Gin. This year we were honoured to be awarded 3 stars by the Guild of Fine Food at the Great Taste Awards for our Classic Cranberry Gin puddings. We offer gluten free and vegan & gluten free puddings, as well as the traditional.
All the baking is done by me at home in my vintage 2-oven Aga – and usually as the sun is coming up before the Bee (aged 7), the Bear (aged 5), and the youngest wake up! This means everything is baked, packaged and posted within 1-2 working days of receiving your order, and your gift recipients will be tucking into their goodies shortly after they have left the Aga.
I use free range eggs and local ingredients where I can. All the herbs used in the savoury muffins are grown in our garden at home.
